Netflix Squid Game Reality Show

You Could Be in The Squid Game

June 21, 2022

The news is buzzing with Netflix's plans to launch a real version of Squid Game, with real contestants and real cash prizes at the end. While this is far from the first time Netflix has dived into the game show genre, it's is one of the rare occasions where the company has leveraged a popular IP to create something new(ish) with it, instead of just letting that IP die after completion. And it could mean a big win if Netflix can pull it off.

A Real Squid Game. Yes, But...

Yes, Netflix is planning to launch a real Squid Game TV show on its service. Before you get too excited from your nascent bloodthirst: No, Netflix is not making it exactly like in the series. There won't be blood (intentionally). Nobody dies (hopefully). But someone will win serious bucks at the end of it.

1. Sentiment Is High for This One

Squid Game is one of Netflix's best-received shows. Ever. TVLine has it listed as the

Netflix ever produced. It also holds a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes (83% audience), and an 8/10 on IMDb. Needless to say, if Netflix can pull it off the right way, it might have a long-term reality competition show on its hands.

2. Anyone Can Apply to Appear

Yes, you heard that right. Anyone can apply to appear in the company's new Squid Game competition show. In fact,

for those of you who are interested. The requirements are fairly simple.

3. Netflix Has a Bad Habit of Killing Shows

We'll see how this one goes. Netflix has a very bad habit of completely killing shows the second audiences lose even a little interest. Sometimes, it sells the rights to those shows to others, but more often than not it'll just sit on its dead IPs, even when there's a lot of demand for it. Still, if done well, Squid Game could last beyond one season and could turn into the next big reality competition show.
