Cord-Cutting Tip of the Week:
How to Get The Most out of Disney Plus
Disney+ is set to be the biggest streaming service launch in history. With the notoriety and strength of its content library, Disney is going to quickly draw in millions of subscribers to the service. There may be a few things you need to know about Disney+ before you sign up, however.
1. Disney+ Device Support
Most streaming services on the market work with almost any device you might own. Disney has shored up some holes it had in device support going into the launch. The full list of supported devices and/or operating systems (to date) includes:
Android phones and tablets
Apple devices (iPhones, iPads)
Roku
Playstation 4
Xbox One
Chromecast
Amazon Fire TV and other Amazon Fire devices
Apple TV
Most web browsers on Windows and Mac
Most users will have at least one device they can use to stream the service on at launch.
2. Disney+ Simultaneous Streaming
At launch, you'll be able to stream on up to devices at once. That's fairly generous, especially for the price, and easily exceeds what Netflix is currently offering. For comparison's sake, Netflix's minimum cost is currently $8.99 per month for SD-quality video and only one device stream per account.
3. Disney+ Offline Downloading
Disney promises that you'll be able to download content to up to 10 different devices for offline viewing. Considering I'll be traveling this winter with a toddler, you can be sure I'll be making full use of this feature!
There is a catch here though.
4. The Marvel Comics Universe Line-up Will Be Slim
Disney had some fairly long-term licensing agreements in place when Disney+ was just a twinkle in its eye. Those have come to bit it in the rear when it comes to its MCU line-up on launch. Instead of the 20+ movies currently in the MCU, Disney+
. More movies will migrate back to the service over time, but the complexity of its licensing agreements (specifically with Netflix) means some MCU movies will actually leave Disney+ and go back to Netflix for a time.
Positively, Disney has noted that any movies you've downloaded for offline viewing will stay put as long as you're a subscriber, so we recommend downloading as much as you can.
