Cord-Cutting Tip of the Week:

Vidgo's Launch Shows Why You Need to Be Careful of Introductory Pricing

You may (or may not) have heard of the

. This over-the-top option launched quietly over the past few weeks and is now slated for a full launch next month. At with a steal of a price ($14.99 per month with dozens of channels), it's easy to get excited. Not so fast.

1. What is Vidgo?

Vidgo is another over-the-top (OTT) streaming service, set to compete with the likes of

,

, and in some respects,

and

.

2. How is Vidgo different?

This service is unique in a few different ways. First, Vidgo has a Spanish-language channel option that carries DAZN. No other streaming service offers DAZN as part of its package (outside of DAZN itself).

Secondly, Vidgo is also offering what it calls "Social TV". Through this feature, you can create watch parties with your friends, which will create a chat room and a shared "jumbotron" that displays the live stream in the chat.

3. Is this service really $14.99 per month?

For now, yes. But all indications are that Vidgo will increase its prices once it has its official, full launch. According to

, Vidgo's official launch will see the service increase prices and split its US-channel packages into two: a base plan for $40 per month, and a premium plan (with a few additional sports and entertainment networks) for $50 per month.

So while the pricing is currently $14.99 per month, you will see an increase within a month or so.

4. Is it worth buying?

Whether you sign up for Vidgo depends on what you want. Its US channel packages aren't going to be anything we haven't seen before, but it may offer a unique mixture of channels that fit your needs more precisely. We recommend you check out full package at Vidgo.com to see if it's right for you.

Just make sure you're prepared for the eventual price increase if you choose to stick with it. At present, Vidgo does not offer some of the features you expect from other services, like a DVR, simultaneous streaming, or TV Everywhere app support. The service also isn't particularly clear on whether you can share your Social TV feature with those outside of Vidgo, or whether it only works with other Vidgo users.
