Cord-Cutting Tip of the Week:
Where to Get NFL in 2019
The NFL is one of the most...frustrating sports providers. Licensing for games are pretty much everywhere, so you may find yourself hopping from source to source to find different games. Here are some tips for you 2019.
1. Know which channels carry which games
Cord-cutting isn't easy when it comes to getting NFL games, but your best option is to use a streaming service that carries all of the major broadcasters. This year, broadcast rights are split between
CBS (Sundays)
FOX (Mondays and Thursdays)
NBC (Tuesdays), ESPN (Wednesdays)
NFL Network (Thursdays)
Amazon (Thursdays)
Yahoo! Sports App (5 select games)
Expect to jump around to different channels on different parts of the week. You may need to set up a reminder for yourself for which channel to watch during each part of the week!
2. Use a provider that provides the best access
Which service provider works best for you will vary. After all, location matters and blackout rules in the NFL still apply. Some games just won't be available nationally, at least not live anyway.
and
are currently the best options with wide channel coverage for local broadcasters and ESPN. And if you really don't care about how much you're paying per month,
AT&T TV Now (formerly DirecTV Now)
is still an option, as well, and likely has every channel you need.
As ever, your best option for local matches may be to get a digital OTA antenna. If you haven't already, it's a good long-term investment.
And if you have an Amazon account (most of us do these days), you'll get Thursday Night Football at no extra cost for most of the season. You can even get 5 free games through the Yahoo! Sports mobile app this year.
