Is Netflix Really King of the Streaming Wars?

The streaming wars are getting any cooler, but a recent Flixed survey shows just which services are winning (and why). This week, we look at winners and losers in the on-going streaming wars.

Looking for what's new to watch this week? We've got you covered. Scroll down to find a few of our top recommended new releases.

Streamer's Spotlight: And the Winner of the Streaming Wars Is...

We know you want to say "Netflix". That's everyone's default answer when it comes to America's favorite streaming service. And while Netflix does come out on top in a number of areas, our survey on the streaming wars indicates Netflix isn't the answer to everything in this space.

Mo' Money, Mo' Problems

There are a large number of reasons why people opt for one streaming service or another, but the biggest selling point is the price. Our survey found that within every major adult generation (Millennials, Gen X, and Boomers), price is the primary factor that leads to customer satisfaction.

Price isn't everything, however. Other factors come into play with particularly interesting generational differences. Our survey found that Boomers have the highest preference, by a large margin, for streaming services that offer new release movies. Boomers also highly favor a service's movie library compared to its TV show library.

Meanwhile, Millennials were the most likely to care about TV show libraries, streaming video quality, and surprisingly, were the most likely to care about the selection of family-friendly content.

Ever sitting in the middle between Boomers and Millennials, Gen Xers only favored on factor above all the most: price. As that generation makes up the

of streaming service account holders, it's no surprise they care the most about how much they're paying.

Who's Winning, and Why

Netflix is a clear winner on several angles, but it's not winning in every category. The most popular service in the US comes out in 1st place for: video quality, new and recently released titles, original content, and user interface. But there are some surprises in other categories.

  • Hulu is ranked 1st for its TV show library

  • Amazon Prime Video is ranked 1st for price and selection of family-friendly content

  • Disney+ is ranked 1st for its movie library

For a selection of live TV channels, YouTube TV comes in 1st, followed (oddly, given it doesn't have channels) by ESPN+ and then Sling TV.

Still, Netflix is the most preferred service overall with the highest satisfaction rating, but just barely. Survey respondents gave Netflix a 3.41 out of 4 for overall satisfaction, with Disney+ in a close second 3.39. Amazon Prime Video and Hulu were 3rd and 4th, respectively, and both scored above 3.20.

It seems the least-favored on-demand streaming service on the market right now is Apple TV+. While it gained a respectable 3.12 out of 4 in satisfaction ratings, over half of its users stated they will either be canceling the service or simply won't be renewing it.
